Arlington Students Invited to Compete in the 39th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Writing Contest

 

Arlington Public Schools students are invited to compete in the 39th Annual, “Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Writing Contest.”  Entries may be submitted now through Dec. 17, 2007.  This year, students are asked to write an essay that completes the sentence, “If Dr. King were here today, I would say …”

 

The contest is open to all Arlington Public Schools students in grades one through 12. Elementary School contest winners will receive $75 each, middle school winners will receive $100 each, and high school winners will receive $150 each.  Winners will be announced on Fri, Jan. 11, 2008.

 

Each first place entry will be published in the Arlington Sun Gazette newspaper, along with a photograph of the student. All winners will recite their essays as part of Arlington County’s 39th Annual Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. scheduled for Sun, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Thomas Jefferson Middle School Theatre.

 

There is no fee to enter the essay contest. Entry forms, which include complete details and rules, are available at all Arlington Public Schools or online at www.apsva.us.  Entries are also available at all Arlington County Libraries and Arlington County Parks and Recreation Centers. All entries must be received by 5 p.m. on Mon, Dec. 17 at the following locations:
