Enrollment and Capacity of Schools

The Arlington County School Board will look at enrollment and capacity issues in an effort to help alleviate crowding in certain elementary schools. Staff has been studying the enrollment patterns at the schools involved in the 2004 boundary process and the 2007-12 enrollment projections.
Staff conducted a survey in the northwest corner of Arlington to help determine the of preschool age children, their ages, the family’s expectation of continuing to reside in Arlington and their expectation of attending APS.
In addition, staff is working with school administrators to identify any short-term adjustments that may need to be made to accommodate anticipated enrollment for the 2007-08 school year at schools projected to be at or near capacity. These may include site adjustments, program moves or other measures under existing policy.
A systemwide task group has been established for this process.
