Extended Day Program
The Arlington Public Schools Extended Day Program is a service to families that provides a planned before-and-afterschool program for elementary school students whose parents are employed. The after-school Check-In Program is available at all middle schools. This is a fee for service program. The program offers safe, supervised, quality activities, which are designed to meet the needs of students. The program is operated by Arlington Public Schools staff.
 
The Extended Day Programs operate on all regularly scheduled school days (182) and in conjunction with summer school (maximum 30 days). The before-school program for elementary schools opens at 7 a.m. and operates until the beginning of the school day. At dismissal time, the after-school program begins and operates until 6 p.m. If Arlington Public Schools announce a delayed opening, the Extended Day opening is delayed the same number of hours. If schools are closed earlier than the regularly scheduled time, Extended Day will close at 4 p.m.

All registrations and payments are managed in the Extended Day Central Office, 2801 Clarendon Blvd. #204, Arlington, Va. 22201. Additional information regarding registration procedures is available by contacting the registrar @ extndday@arlington.k12.va.us, or by calling 703-228-6069. Application packets are available on this web site, from each school office, and the Extended Day Central Office.
 
Submission of an application does not guarantee enrollment. Enrollment is dependent upon authorization from the Extended Day Central Office.

 

Program Sessions

 

Elementary Before-School Session
 
This session opens at 7 a.m. daily and operates until the beginning of the school day. Parents must accompany their child into the Extended Day room.
 
Elementary and Middle School After-School Session
 
This session operates from the end of the school day until 6 p.m. Children must be picked up and signed out from the Extended Day room by 6 p.m.

Cost

Fees are on a sliding scale based on the family's income. There are separate fees for the before-school and after-school session.

If more than one child in a family is in Extended Day, there are reduced rates for some families.

Check-In Program

Check-In is a daily after school program that provides supervision for enrolled 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. The program operates daily from dismissal time until 6 p.m. Check-In requires that each student sign out with the program Supervisor before going to any activity and sign in when returning. Check-In students have a place to study, relax or participate in Check-In activities and have the opportunity to participate in any of the school's regularly scheduled afterschool activities, such as intramural programs and clubs.

Parents have the option of enrolling their child for 3 or 5 days a week.
