How to Apply to Elementary Area and Countywide SchoolsGeneral Application ProcessStudents who have already been selected do not need to reapply in the following years.
A Pupil Transfer Application(PDF), must be submitted between Feb. 1 and April 15 for the following school year. The parent must first attend a transfer orientation at both the neighborhood school and the desired school. The application must be signed by both school principals. The application is submitted to the desired school. Siblings of older students who will be concurrently attending a school are given preference. A random lottery is held whenever there are more applications than available slots. A lottery is always held for slots at Arlington Traditional School. After the lottery takes place, usually the week after the closing of the application deadline, those randomly selected will be notified by mail. Students who applied but were not selected will be placed in numerical order on the waiting list. Applications received after the application deadline will be placed at the bottom of the existing waiting list. When there is a space opening, the next person in the waiting list will be contacted and given an opportunity to register.
